**Functioning in business**: Functioning in Business is for pre-intermediate students who are preparing to use English in a business context. It has been constructed with three aims in mind: first, to develop efficient production and recognition of key phrases; second, to develop listening ability; third, to expand the student's basic business vocabulary.
By following a typical business story through nine episodes, and listening to the appropriate dialogs on the cassette tape, the student on this course is introduced to the key functional phrases for moving ahead in any business situation.
Core vocabulary is introduced in a preliminary unit and is then recycled so that the course becomes increasingly easy for the student as progress is made. Each episode is organized into listening sections, based on the taped dialogs, followed by role play and cloze exercises for consolidations on the basic theme, with its own taped dialog and exercises.
Functioning in Business can be used for class work or self-study.
